dude im filipino mixed and have korean blood. you cant just assume that every korean or japanese person considers filipino at the bottom of the "ladder". And have pride but dont boast. its always better to be humble and have respect for other ethnicities because their heritage is just as sacred to them as yours is to you. No ethnicity is better or worse than the other its just some are easier to take pride in because of the accomplishments made by the people that constitute that race

Finally, naisip ko oras na para magkaroon ng sariling tattoo, at gusto ko yung may homage naman sa sarili nating culture. I'm glad to have stumbled on this site. I'm designing my tattoo, but would like to really dig deep into the Filipino way in fusion with modern design. Salamat sa iyo.

We get enough racist comments from other nationalities, why do people hate on their own race? its a shame on those people. discrimination is as ugly as the people who spread it. and half of those people dont know who they want to be...You have a spanish last name, indo face, drive a euro/asian car, wear clothes made in china/taiwan/thailand, listen to rap music, are obsessed with american movies, eat indian food and all the above in other nationalities...depending on what you think is cool...grow up and if you cant be proud of who you are... then leave everyone else alone who are actually proud of themselves,their family and their nationality...being filipino is more than just a race

pinoy tats are worth something to keep and to show off for, to the world because you are being proud of carrying your harritage, cultures,ethnicity, etc,,. But unless your not proud of being a" True Filipino" in may ways why bother?

Whitepinoy makes a lot of sense here.
I am a white British guy and i have travelled all over the World many many times.
The Phillipines is a great place to visit, extremely beautiful and with some of the warmest people in the World.
Guess what i am white, have blue eyes and a large nose, it doesnt matter, all that matters is the true heart of a person.
What makes me sad is the rife corruption and double standards of the elite ruling classes in the Phillipines. Those are the TRUE ENEMIES of all honest hard working true Fillipinos. FACT!
People should forget, race, creed, background. We are all one!
Read some Buddhism folks and think..............

A lot of opinion, ideas, beliefs in these comments. How about an educated outside opinion? I am not Filipino. I grew up in the Phil. My parents work in cooperation with the Dep't. of Education, working on Multilingual Education bridging programs from Mother-tongue students in tagalog/english public classrooms. I was born in Manila, raised in Nueva Viscaya and Kalinga. Moved back to Manila my jr. high school through high school years. My entire childhood was spent in NV and Kalinga. Because of this huge influence in my life, I have thought of getting a tribal Kalinga tattoo, one relating to either the cities of Bontoc and/or Lubuagan, Kalinga.

But back to my outside opinion, another's perspective. I have come into contact with many filipinos in the U.S. Most are not proud of being filipinos, they feel it is inferior to other races. They wish to have lighter skin, bigger noses, and english speaking households (not all filipinos, of course!). In different areas in CA I have even spoken, ordered food, and paid a cashier while speaking tagalog to them. First they are extremely surprised. And most people respond in the following two ways: some will become extatic that I speak tagalog, and will hold a conversation with me in filipino, and others will be quite, become reserved, and nod and grunt at me until I leave, not wanting to converse. It confused me for a few years.

Upon returning to the philippines for a visit, i talked with many of my filipino childhood friends, family friends etc, and they say these people are most likely ashamed of their heritage, wanting to take up a "western" lifestyle, etc. This made me sad.. An amazing people giving up their heritage because they feel they are not equal, etc.

Like I said, I am not filipino. But i spent the first 14 years of my life on Luzon, and was born in Manila. I have a filipino birth certificate. And I have already gotten one filipino tattoo (the sun, and tagalog words underneath) and when people ask (including pinoys) I am very proud to share with them my childhood! How I was born and raised all the way through high school grad. in the phil.! Most people love to hear it, and wish they had similar experiences! While some are just surprised this white calif. kid was raised in south-east asia! :)

But back to my point, I think you filipinos are an amazing race! You've been through a lot (your ancestors, at least)! And this is nothing to be ashamed of! You have no need to be ashamed of being called "filipino"! Hold the name with pride and honor. Don't wish you were something else, and in turn, lose yourself.

I have YET to meet a more hospitable, friendly, and family-oriented nation!! Hold onto these.

I see that every one is speaking their minds on the TATTOO done by us, the tribe... how it is MIX with the CROSS and the traditional tribal.. first of ALL that is not our IDEA at all to mix the cross and the traditional tribal together it was his.. we wanted to place it on the other arm that was clear to start a new, but it was the CLIENTS choice what he wanted..

he is the one who had the TATTOO of the CROSS before hand, it was there already on his arm, name & all.. and instead of starting on the other arm where he is not tattooed and collecting a new tattoo he wanted to gain more tattoos on one area INSTEAD of doing what WHITE PEOPLE do with there tattoos called the DALMATION effect, that is the, "Here and There Tattoo Me Syndrome" "Spotted Effect" it looks like a messy TOY TAGGING when it could be a pro GRAFFITTI big PIECE mural that tells a major story.. that deals with all of his past, his present and his BELIEFS from then, here and now.. from his family, his children what his ancestors believes in "THEN" that is what the TRIBAL is about and represents...

so of course the NATIVE indigenous animist pagan religion totally co-incides and show part of the FILIPINO CULTURE before the spanish mission and christian converts was introduced and what he believes in "NOW" CROSS his christianity..

SO TO ALL who jumps to conclusion and do not know what is up and mention this tattoos is a PARADOX because ther is a cross with tribal all around it. Remember it was not the TATTOOIST choice to do it that way, but it turned out great in the long run because the great spirit was guiding everyone to put all and all together, so to all who commented that this is a confusing tattoo or someone was confuse please NOT no one was.. it was not such a MYSTERY or too confusing to PUT IT TOGETHER..

Hmm...Not sure what to say to these posts...but I knew I had to comment. Marvin: your posts: well done and well put. Eddie: Your distinction between actual Filipino art and art done by the tribes in Luzon was also a good point. To Gloke and Kyla, although both of you fought back and forth defending your own thoughts and beliefs tooth and nail...at times using some harsh and hateful words, it is nice to see that people have so much love for their heritage that it makes their blood boil when defending it... Isn't that what life and love is all about? Rejoice in your differences and except them. I love being apart of the pinoy culture, it is apart of me, and I love that there are so many of us that share in the same feelings. That's all.

The tribal design in this picture is NOT 'Filipino' in any form, they are Kalinga, Ifugao, etc. They are native to the Cordillera mountain tribes of Luzon. The tribes of he Cordilleras evaded foreign influences and preserved their indigenous, unlike Filipino culture they are mixture of many kinds. Lets recognize these tribes, by not calling their tattoo Filipino. They've been through so much already. peace!

"i'm happy that i got spanish blood because if i didn't i would be dark and ugly" first of all, ur filipino, i dont see that point of sayin that you have spanish blood...thats not really something to proud of in my opinion...they hindered our progress back then and forced christianity on us.... We need to stop sub-categorizin ourselves---- we are FILIPINO and be porud of it !!!!!!
